Do a search here for shims. There are honda and other shims that are the same and can be used and i know there are posts about it. Probably all of the big 4 have shims that'll work. They're pretty generic.

Triumph dealers can source them genuine, I believe Honda do the same sizes.

You can't know in advance of checking the valve clearances, I'm afraid. The process is of checking and changing is quite involved on the Thunderbird 16/1700s. But checking is the easier of the two tasks. You might be lucky and find them in spec.

If you find one that is too tight, you'll need s thinner shim. If one is too loose, you'll need a thicker shim. Sounds can only be changed by removing the cam shafts. Replacing the cams with the correct toning is non trivial, requiring special tools.

As mentioned, you have to check clearances first, once that is done if the tolerances are out of spec then use an online shim calculator. Replacing shims is not a job for the inexperienced, if you are mechanically minded and can follow a workshop manual, have a couple of the special tools required, then you should be ok. There are heaps of posts on here about doing it.

I can't tell you that, bought mine over ten years ago. You will need the timing pin, flywheel puller , holding tool for the flywheel . These can be made if you can borrow some and have a lathe. Try pricing from the UK, sometimes cheaper than dealers here.
